A Dream
Biography: Ricky Ma's dream of creating robots was inspired by a Japanese manga called "Plawres Sanshiro," sparking his imagination about the future. From his childhood, he accompanied his parents to industrial production lines in Hong Kong, witnessing the transition from manual to computerized mechanical production. This exposure instilled in him concepts about various production techniques and skills.
Motivated by his childhood dream of seeing robots communicate with people and assist in daily life, Ricky conducted research on robots while simultaneously working and studying in design.
The Mark 1 Robot became a reality on March 31, 2016. Over the course of 18 months in 2016, he dedicated his time to bringing the human-like robot, "Mark 1 Robot," to completion. His work garnered attention from various news media outlets worldwide, leading to invitations from international institutions, universities, and professional colleges for speaking engagements and collaboration requests.
In 2018, he received invitations for interviews on radio channels, TV shows, and magazines in Canada and Moscow. Simultaneously, a British university recognized the significance of his work, incorporating studies and research on Mark 1 into their academic teaching materials. They also invited him to be a member of their course advisory group for the BSc in Digital Enterprise and Innovation.
